Robert Azevedo Gilbert, the Chairman and founder of Inside Out Stoma Support Group was the very worthy winner of our Volunteer of the Year Award, for his tireless efforts and organising abilities at the support group.

IOSSG is based at St Marks & Northwick Park Hospital, and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009.  As well as holding regular meetings and information days in the local area Bob campaigns nationally on behalf of stoma patients, and actively works with health authorities on relevant issues.

Award criteria: A volunteer who consistently gives willingly and enthusiastically of their time and skills to the stoma support cause or works to raise awareness of stoma issues.

Judges comments included: “Bob is inspirational as an individual, with great organising ability and empathy”
